Benefits and Drawbacks of Fracking
There are benifits, or "pros" as some people like to call them, of fracking. Yet, there are just as many, or even more drawbacks or "cons" of fracking. I will list some of the pros and cons below, but keep in mind, some people have different opions due to these facts. What I am saying is that people may have different opinions on these statments, and I am not implying that those facts and opionions of others are right or wrong.
Some of the cons contain the fact that our drinking water gets polluted. Pollution being caused by chemicals used in the "fracking" process itself. A common chemical that pollutes is methane gas. In many places, fracking takes place in backyards (private property), where children play or where a drinking well is located. Depending on local circumstances, property owners have little or no leverage in determining where hydraulic fracturing operations may take place. Another negative effect of fracking is that people are getting ill, and say the cause is fracking. The gas is getting into their drinking water, polluting it, and making them ill.
Some of the pros of fracking is that fracking provides jobs. With the unemployment rate now, any available jobs are likely to be fufilled. Since 2008, Marcellus Shale has provided tens of thousands of jobs due to fracking. The natural gasses collected from fracking burn easier, too. About half of US electricity comes from burning coal, which, on its best day, is a lot more environmentally problematic than natural gas.
So as you can see, there are equal pros and cons. But note, there are more than those few I listed.
